Your Contact Lens Exam

Your eye is like a fingerprint, with its own unique shape and characteristics. To determine the contact lens that's the most appropriate and comfortable for you and your lifestyle, our experienced optometrists will take you through a few simple steps.

STEP 1: ACTIVITIES ASSESSMENT. First, we talk with you about your lifestyle. Do you work at a computer all day? Are you a reader? A swimmer? A mountain biker? Would you prefer to wear your contacts for longer periods of time? If you’re over 40, your doctor will likely discuss age-related vision changes and how contact lenses can address these issues.

STEP 2: FITTING APPOINTMENT. During your contact lens evaluation, we determine which type of contact lens is best suited to your eye's unique physiology and prescription. We also find the correction necessary to help you see your best, and learn about any other relevant eye conditions, like astigmatism, dry eyes, or allergies. If your eyes are too dry, contact lenses may not be a good option for you. However, some newer contact lenses deliver moisture to the surface of the eye, making them a better choice.

We fit you with a pair of diagnostic contact lenses from our trial lens library or order you the exact trial lens to fit your unique prescription. We check the alignment and movement of the lenses on the surface of your eye to ensure a good fit. We review the care and maintenance of your contacts.

STEP 3: FIT CHECK. Once you've received your diagnostic contacts, we schedule a follow-up appointment to make sure your lenses are working optimally and fitting comfortably. You’ll have a short follow-up exam to confirm that the lenses are working well for you, make any adjustments to the fit or prescription, and you can then order your annual supply of contact lenses.
