World Sight Day (WSD) is an international day of awareness, held annually on the second Thursday of October to focus attention on the global issue of eye health. This year World Sight Day falls on October 8, 2020.
WSD is the focal advocacy and PR event for IAPB and its members and partners each year, highlighting the fact that more than 75% of all blindness and moderate and severe vision impairment is avoidable. WSD provides a platform for organizations to encourage governments, corporations, institutions, and individuals to actively support universal access to eye health.
Every year, hundreds of activities are planned and executed on WSD. While many are featured on the IAPB website’s Activity Report, this does not indicate the full scale, as organizers of events are requested but not obliged to report to IAPB. While the global WSD theme and certain core materials are generated by IAPB, events are organized independently by IAPB member and supporter organizations.
On World Sight Day 2020, Roosevelt Vision is donating $1000 to the cause. In addition, we are challenging our staff to demonstrate one of the Roosevelt Vision core values of Integrity, Collaboration, Compassion, and Fun. For every unique example staff shares, Roosevelt Vision will add an additional $10 to our donation to Optometry Giving Sight in support of World Sight Day.
