Comprehensive Eye Examinations

At Roosevelt Vision, we believe that a comprehensive eye examination is much more than refraction. Refraction determines the spectacle correction needed to provide clear and comfortable vision. A complete eye exam is much more.

During your eye exam, your eyes are checked for proper reaction to light and dark, eye alignment and movements. A measurement of your visual field outlines any blind spots in your peripheral vision. Tests of internal eye pressure or intraocular pressure can help identify an increased risk for glaucoma, a potentially blinding eye disease that causes few symptoms until the disease reaches advanced stages.

Your optometric physician may use a high powered microscope to evaluate structures in the front and back of the eye. This technique can help to identify conditions such as dry eye and cataract as well as diseases that can affect the inner layers of the eyeball or retina such as high blood pressure, diabetes or arteriosclerosis. Photographs may be taken of the internal eye structures using a specialized camera. Advanced technology such as Optomap retinal imaging can provide a wide view of the retina to screen for conditions such as macular degeneration, retinal tear or detachment.

All of these clinical findings are combined with the information that you provide to your optometric physician about your general health, your lifestyle and your occupational needs. Your doctor will review these recommendations with you, and help you to select the options that are best for you and the health of your eyes.
