Lens Designs

Thanks to the advancement of lens technology, glasses lenses are no longer a single, one size fits all solution. There are a variety of different lens types that can be used in glasses, giving patients greater flexibility and control over their vision than ever before.

Our team of skilled opticians personally tests lenses on a continual basis - always searching for the best in clarity, functionality, and comfort. Come in and let us show you how recent advances in lens material, design, and treatments can literally change the way you see the world - and the way the world sees you!

Progressive Lenses

Often referred to as “no-line bifocals,” progressive lenses provide a gradual, invisible change in lens power from top to bottom, and many find them easier to adjust to than bifocals. Newer advanced multifocal designs incorporate high-definition, digitally surfaced lens technology, which widens the usable reading area and enhances overall visual comfort.

Computer Lenses

Computer users who wear progressive lenses or bifocals often complain of eyestrain, and/or neck and shoulder pain due to the "chin-up" posture required to view their monitor. Computer lenses are advanced-design progressive lenses which let you comfortably view your monitor in a proper ergonomic posture, yet provide good vision across the room, and at closer reading distances as well. Wearing computer lenses can significantly reduce the negative effects caused by the high visual demands of computer work, including blurred vision, redness, dry eyes, double vision, and dizziness.

Anti-Fatigue Lenses

Anti-fatigue lenses are specialized single vision lenses with an added power boost in the lower part of the lens to reduce eye strain. These lenses were designed for digital device users who suffer from headaches and eye fatigue with close work. The strength of the added focus power can be tailored to provide just the right level of visual comfort.

A perfectly engineered lens that combats visual fatigue by giving your eyes just enough power to keep them from doing too much work during the day.

Benefits:

  • Greatly reduced eye strain and fatigue

  • Engineered specifically for digital devices and computers

  • Ultra-wide fields of clear vision

Bifocal and Trifocal

Bifocals split the lens into two prescriptions: the bottom half - for near vision - and the top half - for distance. Trifocals add a middle range to help intermediate vision. With the advent of progressive lenses, bifocals and trifocals are not recommended as often, but are still a good alternative for some. Whichever variety you choose, you will see visible lines separating each segment.

Single Vision

Single vision lenses are designed to correct the wearer’s vision at just one distance. They are most often recommended for people who need glasses for a specific activity, such as driving or reading. Specialized single vision glasses can be designed for people who have unique needs like playing music, making jewelry, tying flies for fishing, or painting with a canvas at a particular focal length.

Lens Treatments

Anti Reflective

(AR) coatings reduce annoying reflections and make the eyes of the wearer more visible. AR coatings are recommended for virtually every prescription and lens type. Because scratches in lower quality AR coatings can become more noticeable over time, we offer outstanding products that are highly scratch resistant, and resistant to skin oils as well, making them easier to clean.

Scratch Resistance

A scratch-resistant coating offers good protection against normal use with plastic lenses. Unless otherwise requested, all lenses sold at Roosevelt Vision have scratch-resistant properties. Those with higher prescriptions, take note: during the special lens grinding required for high prescriptions, the scratch-resistant coating is often removed. Unlike many optical stores, our opticians always make sure the coating is re-applied before you receive your lenses.

UV Protective

Overexposure to UV light has been linked to a number of eye problems, including cataracts and retinal damage. And although Pacific Northwesterners receive very little UV exposure UV lens protection is recommended for all outdoor enthusiasts. The coating is and quick to apply to most plastic lenses and won't change their appearance.

Function & Performance

Blue light Filtering

Blue light lenses are specially crafted lenses that contain filters that block out much of the artificial blue light that is produced by digital devices like computers, smartphones, and tablets. Natural blue light is actually good for balancing our sleep-wake cycle, boosting our mood, and enhancing our cognitive abilities so that we can function better day today. However, too much blue light, especially from artificial sources, can have the opposite effect. Many people who fail to use blue light lenses can develop digital eye strain, which produces symptoms like eye fatigue, dry eyes, blurred vision, headaches, and more. Blue light lenses are recommended for anyone who spends a lot of time working on a digital device.

Shamir has developed a lens treatment providing protection from the potential harm of natural and artificial light sources present in our everyday lives, from TV and computer screens, smartphones, tablets, and more. Extensive exposure to blue light leads to tired, dry eyes, eye strain

Photochromic

Photochromic lenses change from light to dark and back again depending upon their exposure to UV light. This versatility gives the wearer the convenience of being able to move between different environments without needing to change their glasses. Once available only in glass lenses, photochromic lenses are now available in high index, Trivex, and other plastics. They are ideal for people who spend a lot of time going between inside and outside, or who work outside in varying weather conditions. Photochromic lenses are also 100% UV absorptive and are available with polarization as well.

Polarized

Polarized sunglasses reduce glare and haze, providing a significant boost in comfort and clarity - ideal for virtually everyone who spends time outdoors. They can do this because they have a special filter that blocks a portion of the reflected light from passing through the lens. Polarized lenses are most often used in sunglasses since they are worn outdoors where reflections from water or snow can be troublesome, and the wearer also needs to protect their eyes from UV damage. We recommend polarized lenses with Anti-reflective lens treatment to further enhance optical quality.

Slim Profile

Aspheric Lenses

Made with flatter curves than conventional lenses, aspheric lenses deliver a slimmer overall profile. Especially useful for farsightedness by reducing weight and thickness, these lenses are also useful in reducing optical aberrations. Most aspheric lenses are also high-index.

Trivex

Extremely light and strong, Trivex lenses have all but replaced polycarbonate lenses due to their superior scratch resistance and optical quality. Nearly ten times more impact resistant than conventional plastic lenses, they are the perfect choice for kids, and safety glasses.

High Index

Glass and plastic lenses designed to correct high nearsightedness or farsightedness have traditionally been thick and heavy, often giving the wearer a "glass bottle" appearance. But high index materials require less material to correct the same amount of refractive error. The result? Highly impact-resistant lenses that are thinner, lighter, and more visually appealing.
